Learn to restrain your dog.

Basically, if you don't have total control over your dog, you need to restrain him or her with a collar or harness. Choke chains are not really recommended but will do with bigger, nearly uncontrollable dogs.

Search throughout this site to find out all the stuff you need to train and care for your pet. Look for our other pet and animal info!

Nylon collars are cheap comfortable ,but they are not as durable as other varieties and can often tear or shred. Because nylon dog collars tend to be more cost effective, they are easier to replace yet, may need replacing more often than other materials. Nylon is lightweight, breathable and more comfortable around a dog’s neck...Just watch out for the ones with the little plastic clip style connectors. They seem to snap pretty easily, even with smaller dogs.

Leather dog collars are durable, long lasting and much more stylish. The less good points on leather dog collars are that they tend to be heavier around the dog’s neck and they don’t breathe like nylon...which can cause discomfort for smaller pet’s necks. Also, collars made of leather tend to hold dirt and smells. Leather isn't always easy to wash either. Over time, old leather can become brittle and cracked, that's a sign it needs replacing.

Harnesses are usually made of lightweight nylon and leather as well. Again, the above holds true for harnesses however, harnesses are not worn when the dog is not being walked as it can be confining and not very fair to your pet to have to walk around wearing it all day and night. Because they are only used when walking, they tend to last a long time, no matter what material. The nylon is better because it can be washed and it’s overall more comfortable for your pet. Be sure to fit it properly so that it isn’t too tight.

And hey, if your dog happens to be an absolutely freaking huge dog, you could always get a saddle for him! YEEEEE-HAW!

Acai for your dog

So, you already know the benefits of acai for people...
  • Some studies show that acai fruit pulp has a very high antioxidant capacity...
  • Scientists are discovering hidden functional power of superfoods, like the acai berry.
  • Studies show that acai oil is possibly a viable alternative to other oils used in skin treatments such as facial and body creams, anti-aging skin lotions, shampoos and conditioners.
But what about an acai supplement for your dog?

NO    This is not a good idea.

Theobromine, or obromine is the ingredient that is used to make all chocolate especially dark or baker's chocolate which is toxic to dogs. This chemical is also found in tea leaves, cocoa beans and acai berry.

One of the five main compounds found in acai is theobromine...

Specially formulated acai treatments may be produced for dogs, but for the most part dogs need to stay away!

How dogs help people

For sure, dogs have been a part of human life for thousands of years.  They can be our best friends at times, and a total pain in the ass at other times!

One of the biggest benefits of having a dog around, from my experience, is that feeling of being looked up to (or looked up at).  A good dog of any size really has one thing in mind: being loyal to the pack.

Being the 'pack leader' in your dog's life means you will get undivided attention, affection and sometimes that little push you need to get something done, especially when the rest of the world is closing in on you! (or so it seems)

So, if you havn't caught my drift yet, a sincere friendship between man and mastiff or woman and weiner dog can be a satisfying, long lasting friendship...one that can mean the world to both the dog and the human.
